Money

Where to get money outside of work?

Many of us often ask ourselves where to find money to get closer to achieving our financial goals. Whether it’s a new car, a house, or finance to start your own business. There are several ways to do this. We offer you some tips on where to find money outside of your main employment.

Extra Work (Brigáda)

Extra work is one way to find money outside of your main employment. Extra jobs are no longer just for students. They are suitable for everyone who wants to earn a little extra money, regardless of whether you are a parent on maternity benefit, a working person, or a pensioner. There are quite a few extra jobs on the market and they can be found at any time of year. However, they are most common in the summer season and in December. It is worth looking for seasonal jobs several months in advance.

Working from Home

This way of earning money is becoming increasingly common, not only worldwide but also in the Czech Republic. The coronavirus crisis has opened even more doors for it. When working from home, you save time and money on travel, you have more time for your children, and you work in the pleasant environment of your home. There are many forms of this extra income. The most common ways include copywriting, telephone specialist, translation, accounting, graphic design, online tutoring, and much more.

Selling Unnecessary Items

Another tip for finding money is to sell items that you no longer need. Each of us has items at home that are functional and, although we don’t use them, we feel sorry about throwing them away. Although we won’t get rich from selling these items, we can earn a few thousand extra. Nowadays, it is possible to sell almost anything. From electronics, shoes and clothing, to books, textbooks, toys, to furniture and unused sports equipment. This is one way to quickly find money. You can sell through the Czech Aukro (Czech online marketplace) or the international e-Bay (the largest global online marketplace where individuals and businesses buy and sell goods).

Selling Handmade Goods

If you have a talent for making jewellery and ceramics, or you enjoy drawing pictures, you can start selling these artistic creations. It’s a great way to earn extra money for those who enjoy creating things. You can also sell homemade natural cosmetics, glass and wood products, or knitted scarves, shawls and hats. Don’t forget to factor in the cost of materials and postage so that your work pays off.

Gambling

Gambling is one way to find money. However, it is very risky and the chances of success are quite low. Nevertheless, if you have a sense of play and are well versed in, for example, sports matches, luck may smile on you. It is important not to exceed the limit of your financial resources and to do it for fun, not for money. Online gambling on roulette, slot machines, poker, online casinos and others is very popular. Of course, there are also lotteries such as Sazka with their Sportka, or the international Eurojackpot. When gambling, remember to follow responsible gambling rules so as not to get into financial problems.

Where to find money? Become a Mystery Shopper.

This source of income is increasingly prominent. The principle involves conducting purchases or other surveys in secret for a client. This usually involves performing an informative visit with a predetermined scenario or task. You conduct surveys in the areas of selected shops, banking, insurance, telecommunications, new car dealerships, car services, restaurants, hotels, etc. As a Mystery Shopper, you will focus on staff approach, behaviour, sales and communication skills, and more. You will receive a reward of hundreds to thousands of CZK for each visit, with each visit typically taking 5-60 minutes. Purchases and travel expenses are often reimbursed.

Rent out a parking space or garage

Do you live in the centre, where there is a struggle for every parking space, and you have free space in front of your house? Try offering it to someone who lives or works a short distance from your house and would like to rent part of the space for parking. The same applies if you have a garage but do not use it, or do not own a car at all. Surely, someone will be happy to rent it. Your extra income is guaranteed.

This extra income is simple and doesn’t take up much of your time. It is one way to earn money online. Many research agencies need to know consumer opinions. Therefore, they offer the opportunity to participate in online questionnaires, telephone surveys, and testing new products. They offer a reward of dozens to hundreds of CZK for each survey, depending on its length and complexity. This is an irregular income, as respondents are selected randomly according to criteria. For example, the Population.cz panel offers the opportunity to participate in telephone interviews, online interviews, or personal interviews, in addition to internet questionnaires. Money is always paid out quarterly to your current account. The Czech National Panel offers the option to choose money (after reaching a minimum amount of 200 CZK (about 9.2 USD)), a material gift, or to donate the money to charity.

Rent out a room or apartment

Do you live in a house or apartment where you have a free room that you do not use? You can earn money by renting it out long-term or offering it for short-term rental on Airbnb for tourists. This is another tip for getting money with little effort. It is important that everything is clean and comfortable and that guests have everything they need (towels, soap, toilet paper, dishes, etc.). Remember that if your guests are satisfied, they will be happy to return to you.

Airbnb

Airbnb, or Air Bed and Breakfast, is a website and mobile platform where people can find, book, and rent accommodation in countries around the world. The platform has been operating since 2008. It is an online marketplace where owners of various accommodation facilities offer their accommodation for rent.

Do what you love

Do you enjoy babysitting? Do you enjoy cleaning and housework? Do you enjoy taking care of animals? Do you exercise? Continue doing so, but for money. You can walk dogs or help a neighbour with babysitting. If you enjoy cleaning, you can set up your own business and go cleaning houses. If you enjoy going to the gym, take a course and you can become a personal trainer. Do you love yoga? You can become an instructor. You will enjoy it. And that’s what work is like. Because long-term, well-done work is only that which we enjoy. The money for it is just a benefit.

Set up an e-shop

The internet, as a powerful tool, is an integral part of our lives. It offers many opportunities to make money. One of these is setting up your own e-shop. The coronavirus crisis showed us that even when interpersonal contact is limited, the online world will continue to function. People will favour e-shops over brick-and-mortar stores due to greater convenience, more discount promotions, and better product orientation. The advantages of setting up an e-shop include relatively low start-up costs, a wider range of products, no expenses for renting space, and unlimited opening hours.

Affiliate marketing

This type of passive income is particularly suitable for those who have their own blog or websites with high traffic. The principle is based on promoting a product (application, software, clothing, etc.). When a visitor clicks on a link to purchase the offered product, you receive a commission from the sale. This can be a one-off payment or a regular payment.

Sell your photographs online

Do you enjoy photography and have many original photographs in your portfolio? Earn money by selling them. Ideally, on foreign stock photo websites. By registering with global stock photo websites, you can offer your work to individuals and companies from around the world. If you don’t have much experience with photography, register for an online course that will teach you everything important. Each photograph accepted by the stock photo website can be sold several times, and you will receive a commission from each sale.
