Ideas and tips on how to make money online?

Before we move on to specific tips, it is worth mentioning that making money and doing business on the internet does not follow rigid divisions or categories. Ideally, you already have a focus or a field you want to grow in, and you then turn this enthusiasm and skill into a money-making machine powered by the dynamic force of the internet. You might currently be at a stage where you are eager to start, but do not know where to begin, lack sufficient information, and have no friends to advise you. I have great news for you. If you are determined enough, you will overcome these hurdles and reach your desired goal.

If you want to make money online, you should have at least a basic understanding of the following areas. You do not need to know them in depth, but you should have a general idea of what they involve and how their principles work. Enthusiasm is a great thing, but on its own it is simply not enough. With programming, you do not need to be able to code yourself, but you should know how much development costs, what a programmer’s hourly rate is, and roughly how demanding different tasks are. You should then develop deeper expertise in at least two or three areas.

Good things come to those who wait

Patience and passion are the two main ingredients for success. If you enjoy something and excel at it, it is time to consider whether it could earn you a living. Playing video games is a prime example. Today, professional gamers earn excellent money, and the future of this modern career will keep growing. In a few years, esports players will be paid just as well as traditional athletes, and their numbers will rise significantly.

If you enjoy a video game and are genuinely good at it, think about whether perseverance and systematic training could take you even further. This is where patience comes in, which applies to gaming just as it does to any online business. Starting out is not easy. You earn nothing. Patience, passion and extra time can change that.

Now it is time to look at mainstream areas where you can learn to navigate the online world, make money and ultimately, hopefully, build wealth. Before diving into the individual areas, though, let me reiterate that if you have a passion for something, try to find a way to make a living from it. That is the best path to take!

Where to look for opportunities on the internet?

In the following section, we explore several areas and ways to make money online. I highlight opportunities and business sectors where I have friends or personal experience. There are, of course, other promising areas as well.

1. Affiliate marketing

How it works is simple. Companies or online shops offer affiliate programmes where they generate a unique link or code for a partner (you). If someone uses the service or buys a product after clicking through your unique link, the partner receives a commission in the system. Affiliate marketing was originally used mainly by website owners who redirected visitors to sales pages.

Today, affiliate marketing principles have expanded to social media and individuals. The potential here is even greater. Anyone can become an affiliate partner, giving influencers another way to monetise their audience. Naturally, you must be able to engage people with your content or visuals so they follow you, trust you and take your recommendations. That is crucial in affiliate marketing. When a trusted, authoritative source recommends a purchase, you will certainly trust them more than someone you do not know. Trust and branding are paramount.

It is a recommendation model that can also work on social media via discount codes, allowing online shops to see which influencers perform best based on their unique codes. For online retailers, social media promotion shifts from a black box into performance advertising that they can measure far more accurately.

2. Online shop

The Czech Republic is the kingdom of e-commerce. Competition is fierce, yet new online shops manage to break through every year. Running a successful online store requires many skills and a firm grasp of digital marketing. Setting up an online shop also requires an investment of time and money, and launching into such a competitive environment is challenging.

Over the past year, the trend has leaned towards consolidation among online shops and the growth of major players such as Alza. The market is likely to develop similarly to the US and Germany, where Amazon has claimed a large share. It follows that you are better off selling products or services that you create yourself, which these large online retailers do not offer.

Another hurdle when launching an online shop is logistics. If your strengths lie in marketing or you simply do not want to deal with logistics, you can try dropshipping. It works on a similar principle to affiliate marketing. To the customer, the online shop looks like a conventional store, but when they make a purchase, you are merely brokering the sale for another shop or warehouse. Your focus remains entirely on marketing and customer acquisition. You do not need to worry about shipping products or handling returns.

3. Digital products

Courses and seminars are very popular, and people are not afraid to spend money on know-how. Do you have knowledge to share? Create an engaging online course or workshop.

Digital products like courses or e-books are easy to replicate, and you can sell them without having to worry about warehousing or product delivery.

A step up from standard digital products are apps, software or CRM systems. Software as a Service (SaaS) holds tremendous potential. Examples include project management tools such as Salesforce or Teamwork, as well as antivirus software and other programs. Companies and founders in this industry grow very quickly because they are not constrained by premises or manufacturing capacity. The product is easily scalable. SaaS applications are also often billed on a monthly, per-user basis, providing the vendor with a steady stream of recurring revenue from subscribers.

4. Freelancer

Freelancer is a modern term for people who work independently, most often online. It is essentially a new format for sole traders and small-scale entrepreneurs. They provide services such as the digital marketing mentioned above, SEO, programming, copywriting, translation or PPC advertising. In return, they are usually paid an agreed hourly rate.

Most people are drawn to freelance work primarily by the freedom it offers, as in the vast majority of cases they do not have to sit in an office and can work from home or a café. Many people try freelancing, and a portion stick with it. Others eventually prefer a career in marketing agencies or, armed with their acquired knowledge, launch their own business, start-up or online shop.

Freelancers work across a variety of projects, gaining valuable hands-on experience and essential know-how. For those who want to enjoy life more and work less, widely used part-time work is another viable option.

5. Influencer marketing

Influencer marketing appeared out of nowhere, but it works on time-tested principles. We are coming full circle back to recommendations and affiliate marketing. Influencers are people who have gained trust or at least interest from a large number of people. If these people do or recommend something, it has a significant impact. How to earn money without an initial investment?

All four points above primarily require general digital marketing skills. You do not need high starting capital; all it takes is dedicating time and effort to yourself and your project. Time is crucial when making money online. Having a great idea and a business plan is not enough. You simply have to put in the hard work. Loans and delegating work are not a good idea at the very beginning. That will only become essential later. Here you can find more ideas for earning money online.

However, there are still many other options. I did not go into detail about the huge potential of social media, where influencers as well as new forms of multi-level marketing operate. That is because I do not see these forms as ideal or offering the highest added value. But that may be a matter of opinion.
