Are you thinking about donating plasma? If you are healthy, this is a kind step to take. You are helping many people who need blood plasma or products made from it. You can also expect financial compensation for any costs and other benefits.
What is the reward for donating plasma?
For a successfully completed donation, you are entitled to financial compensation of 700 CZK (about 32 USD). This serves as compensation for incurred costs and time spent. Plasma can be donated according to Czech laws every two weeks. For example, people in the USA can donate plasma up to three times a week.
Each month, you therefore earn 1,400 CZK (about 64 USD) while at the same time reinforcing the pleasant feeling of helping others. Assuming you go to donate regularly every fortnight, during one year you will receive up to 18,200 CZK (about 840 USD). But that is not all. Providing plasma also brings other advantages.
Advantages of donating plasma
- An overview of your health status through regular check-ups. Thanks to these examinations, you can detect any starting illness in its early stages.
- A day of paid leave. According to statutory provisions, on the day of donation you have the right to time off work with wage or salary compensation.
- A small refreshment after the donation. Look forward to tea, coffee and something sweet to replenish your energy.
- Easy accessibility of donation centres. They are located directly in shopping centres. You can park here with ease and travel here without problems by public transport.
- A loyalty programme for regular donors. This programme features various seasonal events and regular rewards for a certain number of successful blood plasma donations. Discounts and benefits offered by external partners are also waiting for you to use.
There is Wi-Fi connection in the donation centre and the option to watch television. Magazines for reading are also available. For example, in Europlasma donation centres, the entire space is also pleasantly and comfortably furnished. High emphasis is placed on making the donor feel as comfortable as possible.
Unpaid donation
You can waive your claim to financial compensation. The reward will then be sent to a non-profit organisation of your choice. You thus gain the right to a deduction from the tax base for income tax calculation. And that is 3,000 CZK (about 140 USD) per successful donation. If you decide on an unpaid donation, simply arrange it at the reception before the donation. You decide before each voluntary donation which option you choose.
Unpaid donors are awarded by the Czech Red Cross.
How is plasma donated?
In the first step, you undergo a short examination. They measure your blood pressure, pulse, temperature and weight. It is essential that you have not suffered from any illness in the last 14 days. Any injury, fracture, burn and the like are also unsuitable. As a first-time donor, you take part in an initial medical examination. The doctor assesses your fitness and takes blood samples for necessary tests. This will reveal whether your blood contains unwanted substances and what your health status is. Results are known within a week.
Once everything is in order, book your first appointment. The plasma donation itself takes place in the donation room at a pre-arranged time. It takes around one hour. First, your blood is drawn, from which the blood plasma is separated. The remaining white and red blood cells and blood platelets are returned back to the body.
From the donation room, you then move back to reception, where you are paid the agreed financial compensation. You refresh yourself with a drink and have a small sweet. Are you interested in another visit? Arrange it right here. If this is your first donation, you will also undergo a brief consultation with a doctor.

Blood plasma makes up more than half of the blood
Blood is composed of red blood cells, blood platelets, white blood cells and blood plasma. Plasma itself is the liquid component of blood. It has a yellowish colour. It ensures the transfer of nutrients around the body and is also responsible for removing metabolic waste products. It contains 90% water. Its remaining part consists of organic substances such as proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc.
A healthy person has approx. 3 to 3.5 litres of this fluid in their body, which is the greater part of the blood content. Its collection is termed plasmapheresis, during which approximately 650 to 880 ml is collected.
What is the collected plasma used for?
Important products and medicines are made from blood plasma. It is irreplaceable. It cannot be artificially produced in laboratories. It can only be obtained through donation from voluntary donors. More than half of all people will get into a situation in their life when they need it. It is used in the treatment of severe burns, serious injuries and operations. Furthermore, it is important in cases of immune disorders and blood diseases. It is also used in the treatment of infectious diseases.
Blood plasma donation is painless. At most, it can be a little unpleasant. The risks of donating plasma are minimal in current modern conditions. So if we return to the question from the introduction of whether blood plasma donation is worth it, we must leave the answer to you. For most people, the social question will be important, but for a significant portion of donors, the reward for donation helps with their household budget.
