Czech investors have become accustomed to tracking the performance of their mutual funds using mobile apps. However, a mutual fund is not the only way to have your money managed. The volume of assets managed in the asset management segment in the Czech Republic is growing rapidly. According to data from the Association for the Capital Market of the Czech Republic (AKAT), at the end of 2025 it reached 3.7 trillion crowns, nearly a quarter more than the year before, and the trend continues this year. Some investors are therefore looking for something other than anonymous funds. They want individual attention, a portfolio tailored to their needs, and personal contact with a manager.
The volume of managed investments in the Czech Republic continues to grow
Collective investing has also grown rapidly. Assets held by households and institutions in collective investment funds offered in the Czech Republic increased by 18.3 percent in 2025. There was a significant increase in funds for qualified investors, which are instruments designed for wealthier clients. AKAT has reported this strong increase repeatedly, so it is not a one-off fluctuation.
In the first quarter of 2026, assets in mutual funds continued to grow, reaching 1.423 trillion crowns. According to AKAT chairman Jaromír Sladkovský, 2026 could again show strong double-digit growth in assets under management.
Several factors may contribute to the growth of investments, such as changes in interest rates, increasing interest in investing, or a greater willingness of households to seek ways to increase their savings.
What exactly does asset management mean?
The term asset management is often confused with classic investing in mutual funds. However, there is a fundamental difference.
When investing in a mutual fund, the investor buys units or investment shares of the fund. The fund manager manages the portfolio according to a pre-defined investment strategy and rules outlined in the fund’s statutes, the same for all investors.
Asset management works differently. A manager creates a bespoke portfolio for a specific client, based on their assets, goals, and risk tolerance. It is not a shared fund, but an individual mandate. The client can therefore directly own specific shares, bonds, or units in specialised funds that may not be practically accessible or suitable for small investors to the same degree or in the same combination.
This form of asset management is mainly associated with clients who have higher capital, whether individuals, family firms, or institutions.

Jak asset management funguje v praxi?
A good example of an approach to asset management in the Czech Republic is WOOD & Company, a financial and investment group that has been operating on the Czech capital market for over three decades and was instrumental in the creation of the Czech stock market.
As part of the asset management service, it offers discretionary portfolio management from 50 million CZK (about 2.3 million USD).
“We create investment products and services ourselves at WOOD & Company,” says Vladimír Jaroš, CEO and partner of the company. The firm first invests its own capital in them and only after verifying their performance considers whether to offer them to clients.
More than 20 experts in the field are involved in managing portfolios. The product range includes four main areas.
- fondy pro kvalifikované investory,
- bonds, including corporate bonds verified by the company,
- investment certificates,
- Property funds realitní fondy, where the company aims for a long-term return of between 8 and 10 per cent per year on selected products.
This is a targeted, not guaranteed, value associated with a recommended investment horizon of several years.
Portfolios are built according to the client’s risk profile. A more conservative option usually invests mainly in government and corporate bonds, supplemented by a smaller proportion of shares and real estate funds. This allows the client to obtain a structure tailored to their specific situation.

Pro koho se asset management hodí a pro koho ne
Individual portfolio management does not automatically mean a better choice for every investor. A higher degree of personalisation is usually associated with a higher initial capital and a specific cost structure.
Asset management makes more sense for these types of assets:
- company or family capital,
- inheritances or proceeds from the sale of a business,
- assets whose volume and structure require individual decision-making.
Simpler investment instruments tend to be more practical in these cases:
- regular investments in the order of thousands of crowns per month,
- mutual funds or ETFs without the need for an individual mandate.
The specific conditions vary depending on the form of service. WOOD & Company offers discretionary management of an individual portfolio from 50 million crowns, while managing the assets of institutional clients or individual SICAV funds is handled according to the client’s specific situation.
Why consider asset management?
The growing volume of assets in the funds of qualified investors confirms that this segment of the Czech investment market has been strengthening in recent years. For some investors, individual portfolio management may be another option for working with larger or more complex assets.
If you manage assets worth tens of millions of crowns and are looking for individual portfolio management, a good first step could be to contact an experienced manager directly. WOOD & Company offers a free personal consultation to discuss your goals, asset situation, and suitable portfolio.
